Mixing Patterns In Your Home

Elevating any room in your home is the easiest thing to do by mixing patterns and color. I love to create interest and personality into a space by mixing patterns and textures and layering them together to achieve a beautiful ensemble. If you’re wanting an inviting living room or bedroom to feel stylish you can achieve a well designed space with these simple tips.

First choose a color you gravitate to then find a lead pattern that draws you in. The pattern can be a floral, striped or even plaid. We call this the lead or show stopper pattern. The pattern can come from wallpaper, artwork, drapery or a rug with bold or subtle soothing colors.

Secondly, use the lead pattern to pull complimentary colors from it, you can choose two or three colors. The complimentary color can be a stripe, solid color, geometric and even a smaller floral print to the lead pattern.

Lastly, layer them together to create a cohesive look but remember there are no rules and you don’t have to match colors exactly. It’s fun to keep things interesting and switch things up.

Here we chose a floral pattern as our lead fabric. This pattern has shades of pink, red, green and cream.

We love how the complimentary colors are in a solid color and below we added a block and striped pattern. Notice the complimentary colors pulled from the lead patterns color scheme.

This pink block print works beautifully with the lead floral fabric above.

The stripes in this red and cream fabric works perfect with the lead floral fabric above by adding another layer of pattern.

This botanic showstopper pattern has a color palette of blues, brown and cream.

So a striped pattern and geometric pattern compliment the lead floral nicely by adding texture and staying in the same color scheme,

You can use a combination of mixed patterns for pillows or window drapes to elevate any living room or bedroom and that’s it! So easy and fun to layer patterns in your spaces. I hope you try this in your home to bring a variation of textures and layers to any room.
